On behalf of my students in OLTD 5...Hello Stephen,

On behalf of my students in OLTD 501, the first course in our new Online Learning and Teaching (OLTD) Graduate Diploma Program at Vancouver Island University, I would like to sincerely thank you for taking the time to respond so profoundly and deeply to my students' questions regarding the currrent and future state of online learning.

I had them review your seminal article, eLearning 2.0 which, as you know, was authored in 2005. My question for them was to review the article and remark on its' relevance 7 years on. Of course, our conclusions were unanimous that your insights -- with special regards to Seimen's Connectivism" theory and Wenger's "Communities of Practice" were prophetic indeed.

Your closing statement certainly resonated with us all. "The challenge will not be in how to learn, but in how to use learning to create something more, to communicate."

Which is the essence of what you have shared with my students today.

We only posted to your site yesterday during our Collaborate web-conferencing class. I wondered whether you might indeed "walk the walk" Stephen when it came to responding and you have come through in stellar fashion!

Sincere thanks to you again for engaging in the dialogue. I believe our new online teachers/learning facilitators are indeed change agents and hold the key to "creating something more"-- especially with encouragement from an eLearning veteran, as yourself.

If you wish to continue the discussions please feel free to contact me Stephen.
mary.oneill@viu.ca. We would love to have you join one of our web-conferences,anytime.

For more information on our program please visit

http://www.viu.ca/education/oltd/

Collegial Thanks,
Mary O'Neill on behalf of the OLTD 501 learnersMary O'Neill, Coordinator, OLTD Program, Vancouver Island Universityhttp://www.viu.ca/education/oltd/noreply@blogger.com
